The ultimate goal of this course is to teach you to think of your firm or business as a whole, rather than as marketing, finance, or operations. In particular, we will focus on how the organization interacts and adapts to its environment-competitive, societal, and global-and on how its various parts fit together to achieve a common objective. As such, this course is taught from the perspective of the general manager faced with identifying, making, and implementing strategic business decisions.
The intention is to allow the student to focus his or her thoughts toward preparing, writing, and presenting a business plan. The new business project can range from a new product introduction at a corporate business unit level to an entrepreneurial new business.
The written plan and presentation should be assembled in a form that you would be comfortable to give to a board of directors, or an financial institution, whichever one you would wish to ask to fund your venture.
